Top 3 energy saving daily tips

Mostly energy saving tips have become common knowledge but I know myself the odd bright idea slips through the cracks and always comes as a pleasant little surprise when reminded so I hope this brief but effective list helps!

1) Light Management

Depending on a variety of situations evaluating you light source can have a huge impact on electricity bills you won't be shocked to hear but here are some scenarios to take into consideration;

Motion detection is most beneficial for low footfall areas, and be sure to get the timing right no need for a 5 minute time to be on for a short hall, maybe try 30-45 seconds which will help deter loitering and over the span of a year time adds up!

Light Detection can be useful for high footfall areas such as in the heart of the office, an example scenario being that desks beside the window will experience better light vs others at the opposite side of the room. Therefore by installing light sensitive technologies different areas of the office will get the required light rather than everything being turned on, and staff won't have to be obligated to get up and down during the winter when light tend to fluctuate from a cloudy 12pm lunch too a sunny afternoon.

Luminosity, righter the light, bigger the bill, of course with some areas it is paramount to ensure crisp lighting but what about areas such as the kitchen or as mentioned before low footfall areas such as hallways, cut down luminosity to lower bills.

Turn them off! Maybe you were like me and used to growing up having your dad complain about all the lights on in the house so trained to to keep em of to keep him happy! Others may have greater strength when it comes to selective hearing, either way reminding staff to turn off lights helps of maybe depending on your team dynamic incentives as a competition could be offered like a tally chart, whoever has the most tally's by the end of the month get the Friday off! Of course you'll want to keep the chart in a exposed position so no tomfoolery goes down..

2) Kitchen costs

The kettle trick. Do you have waves of employees coming in and curing that caffeine craving every morning keeping the kettle on its toes? Of course it can be suggested to get an eco friendly kettle that actually boils the water to 90 Celsius which is the prime temperature for coffee and tea rather than burning the flavours at 100 Celsius. A better solution for a handful to hundreds of staff would be an insulated Airpot, load up with a couple kettle boils, vs semi filled sessions, or reheats on repeat, or maybe even invest in an electric Airpot, with the right one you can save money and time on that kettle click.

Fridge management. With the pandemic having shifted up a lot of office life if you find there are a few days a week or during the holidays where the fridge is not in use then turn off or up the temperature depending on its status of use, or maybe find there are you have a 6ft fridge with only a couple lunches, then try downsizing to downsize that bill.

Essential equipment. Maybe you have a cooker thats used once in a blue moon, maybe its time to sell up or at least make sure equipment like this is switched off at the source, as that one time an employee cooked a pizza for their work pals could be racking up the pennies if a stand by light has been on for the past few years. Same goes for the other essential equipment that get used regularly, like encourage staff to turn off the mircowave or ensure that the dishwasher is fully loaded before use and turned off between uses especially over the holidays.

3) Office Operations

Pointless paper. As we all know most operations have gone paperless, but it's good to re-evaluate every now and then is there anything else that can join the paperless pack. The ideal situation would be to get your paper demands down so far as to only ever need to outsource requirements at a local print shop, they work on a large scale, and making a loyalty agreement can help keep service costs lower than what you would have had to pay for machine maintenance, paper, ink, electric, and staff time.

Heating can be a hefty bill, so ensure all temperature are maintained to a reasonable standard and set to only turn on when used of course!

Turn them off times two! Like kitchen equipment make sure office equipment is turned off when not in use.

Did you know you're paying for wasted electricity?

230V is what Uk electric mains supply, but this can fluctuate between +10% to -6%, then depending on which spectrum that the deviation lyes will either cause mounting damage to equipment or paying for wasted electricity that your equipment won't use.

So if you are in control of managing the electricity you pay for at the source of entry, enables savings across bills and machine maintenance/longevity. Thats where Voltage Optimising technology comes in..

Voltage Optimisation

With Volta's Voltage Optimising technology you will be fully equip to regulate energy requirements to so you can stop paying for wasted electricity. For example your site could be pulling in 230 volts and in some case this can go up to 245 volts where many commercial machines only need around 220 Volts to work at optimum efficiency so that is where the Voltage Optimiser comes in, being at the point of where electricity enters the premises to ensure that only what is needed is drawn in from the grid, which also helps prolong the life-span of machinery.

Will Voltage Optimisation work for my business?

There are some cases where businesses already get adequate supply for their operations, and in these cases only minimum is any savings will be achieved.

This begs the question would you rather Volta experts confirm this through a site survey to analyse if there are energy saving solutions applicable, in which case if there are we deliver an enhanced modelling and savings forecast, for you to review where we have experts on hand to contact so you feel confident with your decision.

What is on a Voltage Optimisation enhanced modelling and saving forecast?

  • Annual kWh usage

  • Average Tariff

  • Total kWh related annual charges

  • Equipment suggested

  • Reduction in CO2 emissions per year

  • Reduction in consumption per year

  • Total Savings
